Surfactants and emulsifiers

Surfactants (Surface Active Agents) and emulsifiers are compounds that lower the surface tension of a liquid, the interfacial tension between two liquids (or between a liquid and a solid). There is a huge variety of surfactants (anionic, cationic, nonionic and amphoteric). Surfactants may act as detergents, wetting agents, emulsifiers, foaming agents, dispersants, antifogs, anti-corrosive additives, stabilisers.

The demand on modern industrial fluids formulations (detergents, metal working fluids, etc...) leads to ever increasing requirements for surfactants which must tolerate important variations of pH, reduced treatment rates, have a good biodegradability with reduced environmental impact, a low odour, a low toxicity and a good stability.
The functionality of a surfactant is mainly given by its hydrophilic-lipophilic-balance (HLB), which reflects the hydrophilic proportions and the lipophilic proportions of the product.

Our function is to provide you with our support and our expertise in the development of your formulations by selecting exactly the surfactant that you need:
